My name is Stephen Madden.

I am a qualified psychotherapist living in Dublin and working online. I hold a Masters degree in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy awarded by the Institute for Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy (IICP), a Masters degree in Mental Health: Psychological Therapies awarded by Queen Mary University of London, and a Bachelors degree in psychology awarded by University College Dublin.

My qualification in psychotherapy from IICP is recognised by the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, and I practice in line with their code of ethics https://iacp.ie/files/UserFiles/News-Links/IACP-Code-of-Ethics-and-Practice-Current.pdf

I am committed to continuously advancing my practice through engagement with supervision and by attending training courses, reading relevant literature and other means. I also comply with standards of data protection set out by the General Data Protection Regulation 2018 (GDPR) and the Irish Data Protection Act 2018, and use an online platform with end-to-end encryption for online therapy.

Services Offered

I offer online therapy to adults over the age of 18 seeking to address a broad range of issues. These may include relationship/attachment issues, low self-esteem or struggling with shame, issues related to identity, LGBTQ+ issues (I myself am a member of this community), bereavement and grief, social anxiety, general anxiety and stress, depression and low mood, and sense of purpose or direction in life.

I do not take a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to therapy; I have been trained to integrate a range of modalities in such a way that best suits the unique person I am working with. My primary concern is always to create an environment in which a client feels safe, valued and understood, which I believe creates a platform from which effective therapy can unfold naturally. The main therapeutic approaches I use are Person-Centred Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and aspects of Psychoanalytic and Gestalt therapy; however, this is not an exhaustive list.
